Team USA won the ninth Maccabi Transatlantic Cup by 21 and a half to 14 and a half to lead the series 5-4.

Scratch representative teams of golfers from Great Britain and America competed at Coombe Hill Golf Club over three days of intense competition in the Jewish equivalent of the Ryder Cup.

Started in 1995 and then held in 1996 and every two years since, the MTC has become the premier Jewish golfing event outside the Maccabiah Games itself.

Matches were very tight with several matches decided by one-hole margins.

Daniel Schindler, captain of Team GB said: "Both teams competed in true Maccabiah spirit with the golf played to the very highest level with almost every match of the fourballs, foursomes and singles recorded with scores below par.

"Coombe Hill hosted the event with great generosity and produced their excellent course and facilities in a world class condition, as always. The only sadness is that we have to wait two years to play again."

Jay Blumenfeld, the USA captain, said: "We're delighted to be able to retain the Cup in the US but more important, spend a great few days with our Maccabi golf friends here in Britain. Coombe Hill Golf Club and GB captain Danny Schindler did a fabulous job organising the event and making sure that we all enjoyed ourselves and the competition. We look forward to hosting the MTC in 2012."
