Senior Lions celebrate 'outstanding' season
London Maccabi Lions rounded off a successful season for the Senior section with the annual 7-a-side and awards night.
Following the Club's outstanding season in the Herts Senior County League, where the first team won the Premier Division title and the Reserves won the Reserve Cup, it was announced that the Club had been promoted to the Spartan South Midlands League for season 2010/11. With St Albans City not being able to offer the use of Clarence Park next season, the Lions have secured a two-year ground-share deal with Cheshunt-based Broxbourne Borough V&E who will host all first team home games, with the Reserves continuing to play at Rowley Lane.
The prestigious Clubman of the Year award was presented to Danny Jacobs for his tireless efforts in co-managing the Reserves. First Team Player of the Year went to top-scorer Adam Stolerman for his 35 goals and the Players Player of the Year awarded to midfielder Daniel Stanton. Yoav Lebens was Young Player of the Year and Matt Davis won the Safe Hands award for top goalkeeper.
Senior Club Chairman Adam Solomons said: "We have had a fantastic season culminating in not only being the first all-Jewish Club to win the Herts Senior County League but also now to have the opportunity to be the first to compete at Step 6 in the non-league Pyramid.
At a time, when our junior section is thriving, it is good to see that the men's section is also able to compete and continue to lay the foundations for the Club for many years to come. Our aim is to remain at the forefront of Jewish football, and thanks to the sterling efforts of our players, coaches and managers, we have been able to maintain that this season. We will not compromise on our ideals and supporting the MSFL and Peter Morrison National Cup competition is as important to us as our progress into senior non-league football. Next season will be the most demanding. We will work hard in the close season to prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead."
