Kuber is a genuine driving force
Mark Kuber beat Walker Cup star Luke Goddard to win the Johnson Better Ball competition.
Plagued by a back injury for the past few months, Kuber has been forced to miss a large chunk of the season but he saved his best form to beat amateur champion Goddard, who recently turned professional.
The victory capped a number of successes for the youngster who won the Northwood Under 21 Open as well as having a hole-in-one at the Hendon Golf Club Pro-Am, an achievement rewarded with a new set of clubs.
Kuber was also a medallist at Hendon’s Spring Meet and followed this up by winning the men’s club Championships by three shots.
The Hendon event was Kuber’s last before his fitness deteriorated. He also reached the final of the men’s scratch knockout and won the Captain’s prize, the men’s handicap knockout for all male members at Hendon.
Injury forced him to withdraw from playing for the Hendon and Middlesex teams. Having recuperated, he returned to action in Birmingham last weekend, helping Hendon’s scratch team home in the Middlesex County Rowse Trophy.
Kuber said: “It seems my body is now back on the mend. I’m getting back in the gym and beginning to practice again in the hope of a bit more luck next season.”
