Daniel Poleshchuk will be the star attraction when Ra’anana Squash Centre hosts Israel’s first international squash tournament later this month.
Poleshchuk, 18, will spearhead the challenge of the Israel team in an event held under the auspices of the Professional Squash Association, and organised by the Israel Squash Rackets Association.
Held over four days, the Global Relocations Israel Open Squash Tournament will feature some of the world’s leading young players from Denmark, Austria, France, Spain, Portugal, England, Netherlands, Wales, Poland and Gibraltar.
Poleshchuk is the current Israel national champion and is the top-ranked under-19 player in Europe. He has experienced a successful first year as a professional player — storming to 159 in the latest PSA rankings, after starting 2013 in 440th in the world.
Looking ahead to the tournament, a spokesman said: "This event is truly a feather in the cap of the Israel Squash Rackets Association, whose members have worked tirelessly to get Israel on to the world map of squash."
