Maccabi GB have appointed Lord Jonathan Kestenbaum as President of Team Maccabi GB at the 2015 European Maccabi Games in Berlin.

Lord Kestenbaum is a long-term Maccabi GB supporter and was President of Team GB at last summer’s 19th Maccabiah Games and 2011 European Maccabi Games in Vienna.

He has represented Great Britain in Masters Football at the 2001 Maccabiah; in 2009 he managed the GB Open Football team at the 18th Maccabiah in Israel - his team went on to reach the Final and became the first GB Open football team in 50 years to win a medal.

Maccabi GB Head of Delegation Daniel Collins said: "We are delighted that Jonathan has agreed to continue as Team Maccabi GB President for the 2015 European Maccabi Games.

"His unwavering support - built on his own Maccabi GB experiences - coupled with his enthusiasm and love for Jewish education will be an inspiration to the whole squad."

Lord Kestenbaum said: "I am delighted and honoured to once again accept the position of President of Team Maccabi GB at the 2015 European Maccabi Games.

"I strongly identify with Maccabi GB’s mission and am thrilled to maintain an involvement in their International Events."

In January 2011 Jonathan Kestenbaum was appointed to The House of Lords and became Lord Kestenbaum of Foxcote. He is Chief Operating Officer at RIT Capital Partners PLC, the publicly quoted investment trust founded by Lord Rothschild. He is also Chairman of Five Arrows Limited, the investment company controlled by Lord Rothschild’s family interests. He was previously Chief Executive of NESTA, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. NESTA is the country’s biggest source of seed finance for technology start-ups.
