Hendon C given master-class by Raiders

There was to be no fairytale cup upset for Hendon C as the divisional gap between the two sides proved too much to overcome.

JOSH GREEN (4), David Rhodes (2), Matt Stock, Justin Spiro, Jonathan Peters and former manager Rob Richman rubber-stamped Raiders' smooth passage into the next round.

Hendon started reasonably well and thanks to keeper Yaacov Goldin pulling off some cracking saves, kept the scoreline goalless for the opening 15 minutes.

The pressure finally told and disappointingly for Hendon, after the first goal went in they conceded several more in a short period of time.

The goals continued to flow and the third division side found themselves facing a potentially embarrassing result as they went into the half time break trailing 7-0.

A switch in formation at the interval resulted in a much improved performance from Hendon in the second half, and despite conceding a couple more, their efforts were rewarded with a goal to take home as Gab Saul swung in a free-kick which was headed into his own net by a Norstar defender.

Hendon had further chances to get on the scoresheet through Joni Kleiman and Ben David as they grew in confidence, but the Premier League leaders added a tenth late on.

Hendon boss Glekin told JC Sport: "It was a tough morning for us. It didn't get off to a great start when our keeper Yak Goldin revealed he had 'morning sickness', but seeing as he had a fine game maybe I'll encourage a few more of the lads to get preggers!

"I thought we showed them too much respect in the first half and it was really frustrating to gift them several goals with individual errors...but credit to Norstar, at times I thought their touch, movement and skill were exceptional - certainly a different level to what we're used to playing against, and we couldn't cope with it.

"All credit to the lads though, down 7-0 at half time we could easily have given up and caved in, but we kept going and I thought a goal was the least we deserved for our efforts.

"We've got some big league games coming up, and if we play with the same level commitment as we did today we'll do just fine."
