Strikes from Joni Reiner, Matan Kroizer, Aviad Kaufman (2) and Lanre Wajuv helped Modiin make a dream start to the campaign as they cruised to victory against Athletico.

After an even opening, Modiin broke the deadlock on the half hour as a floated free-kick was headed home by Reiner. Modiin continued to play attacking football and were pleased to go into half time with a lead.

Modiin made some substitutions which transformed their play and within five minutes, Kroizer doubled Modiin's lead with a coolly taken finish.

Modiin were now in full flight and Kaufman broke the offside trap on two separate occasions to extend Modiin's lead to 4-0.

Athletico fought back and with 15 minutes left won a penalty. Striker Yonatan Yourno stepped up with a sweetly struck effort, but Modiin keeper and man-of-the-match Iliyah Kovalov dived to his right ensuring that Modiin would keep a clean sheet.

As the game was edging into the final few minutes, Modiin midfielder Wajuv went on a mazy run and comfortably finished into the bottom right hand corner.

Modiin co-manager Jamie Lazarus said: "We are very happy with the football we played tonight. It is great result for the lads. We have assembled a great squad and are confident we will achieve success this season."
