Yaffe lifts South Manchester

Manager Jody Marks was left "delighted" after his South Manchester side continued their fine start to the Accountants Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Sporting Manchester.

The scoreline suggests a much closer game than was actually the case with South Manchester dominating from start to finish, something which should have seen them win by a much more comfortable margin.

Wasteful finishing and an "inspired performance" by the Sporting goalkeeper frustrated the opposition, and it was not until fifteen minutes from time that the deadlock was broken. When the goal eventually came it was worth the wait, with Marc Yaffe netting his fourth goal of the season with a trademark free kick from 25 yards out.

Speaking after the win, Marks said: "I'm delighted with our start to the season - scoring 13 goals and not conceding in our opening two games."

Next week sees Manchester take on Miam Miam in what Marks believes will be a "really tough game" against a side he expects to see challenging for the title this year, but South Manchester will go into the game full of belief after such an impressive start to the campaign.
