Fortune thankful for Matt finish against Boca
MGBSFL DIVISION THREE
BOCA JEWNIORS 1 TEMPLE FORTUNE 1
A second-half strike from new signing Matt Leader earned Temple Fortune a point against Boca at the Roger Banister Sports Centre in Pinner.
Boca managers Viv Emanuel and Jack Shulman had their players focused for the task at hand ahead of kick-off. "We knew the whole league was watching," said Emanuel, "and it was a great game. We had out a great squad out and I hoped that we could compete with as far as I am concerned a team that could finish in the top five."
Boca were in control of the game for much of the first half and took a well-deserved lead after 30 minutes. After some great passing, Kane Alexander knocked the ball to Dan Ezra on the edge of the area. He ran in and slotted it in the left hand corner of the goal.
Fortune came out fighting in the second half and showed they are a team to be reckoned with. Leader capitalised on a defensive mix-up to head home. The visitors thought they had won it five minutes later but the effort was disallowed.
Boca joint-manager Viv Emanuel told JC Sport: "We defended well and battled hard for the whole game. Jack and myself are very proud of the team as this was only the third game the team have played together and we look now to next week's game against Faithfold."
Fortune's Mike Shorvon said: "This was a potential banana skin against an improved Boca team, but I think the draw was a fair result all things considered. We were poor in the first half but battled well in the second and shaded it.
"Gideon Wetrin was exceptional and Lee Fegan and Richard Cooper notably had very good games too.
"With a few newcomers it might take time for us to gell as a team so a point is better than none.
"Hats off to Boca who have not enjoyed much joy in previous seasons so I hope they now have a good season."
