Cheery O's promoted

Oakwood B clinched promotion after a goal in each half saw them win another title six-pointer, as they followed up victory over FC Team C with their 16th of the season against AC Mill Hill to move on to 49 points.

From the off on Sunday it was apparent that Oakwood were on their game, possibly inspired by half of title rivals team FC Team being in attendance, after their game was cancelled.

Oakwood were so confident that manager Ian Tussie decided to take a week off, treating the lovely Mrs Tussie to a weekend away in country to celebrate promotion a day early.

From minute one the Oaks dominated and grabbed a deserved goal on 44 minutes through Ben Polak's 12th header of the season from a delightful Eric Lewis free kick.

In truth, Mill Hill rarely threatened and it was Oakwood that grabbed a deserved second on 80 minutes. Vic Librae won a 20:80 down the left wing before finding Polak, who in turn switched the ball to Ben Levy on the right who deftly controlled the ball before slamming it past the helpless Mill Hill keeper to send the Oaks and their fans into raptures.

The promotion celebrations went on long into the afternoon, but Oakwood are fully aware that nothing less than a win will guarantee the title next Sunday against Loughton Orient.

Oakwood's Dave Eden told JC Sport: "There were 14 great performances on the day, but particular Marc Conway and Jack Sultan were superb, dominating midfield and not allowing Mill Hill a kick."

Upon hearing the result, a delighted Ian Tussie told JC Sport: "Shame for Mill Hill but I hope they come up too. They're a good bunch of lads and a good team too ... and If Jewve hadn't folded they'd have been within three points of us too. Mind the gap ..."

Mill Hill boss Joe Levy told JC Sport: "Unfortunately we were second best and Oakwood deservedly won the game.

"We are disappointed that the withdrawal of Jewventus from the league effectively ended our title challenge, but we are still hopeful that we will gain promotion.

"Congratulations must go to Oakwood who were the better team and deserved winners. We hope that we will be given the opportunity to extract revenge in the second division next season."
