ATHLETIC BILBAUM 1 FC TEAM B 2
Bilbaum's promotion hopes lie in tatters after they were beaten on their own patch by FC Team B.
Bilbaum and FC Team B produced one of the most entertaining matches of the season. It was end to end stuff and Team drew first blood when Jon Fisher played a ball through to Freddie Marks who finished calmly.
Both teams were creating chances but Bilbaum equalised with a neat shot from the edge of the area from Jake Gilbert which hit the far post and went in.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the first, but Bilbaum started the stronger when their striker weaved his way through the defence but saw his shot pushed away by David Gordon in the Team goal. On the hour Team forged ahead courtesy of Dan Alfreds when, after good work from Adam Goldsmith, Alfreds looped a deflected shot over the goalkeeper.
Bilbaum didn't let their heads drop and Gordon had to make another save to divert a goal-bound shot over the crossbar with his left hand when diving to his right. Bilbaum had another great chance when their forward lifted the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper but saw his shot rebound back off of the crossbar.
Alfreds then had another chance for a second when clean through but hit his effort just over.
Bilbaum were throwing the kitchen sink to try and get an equalising goal but the Team defence stayed resolute. However, with minutes to go a cross came into the Team penalty area, five Bilbaum players attacked it but the assistant referee's flag stayed down and when the ball fell to a Bilbaum midfielder he powered his shot against the top of the crossbar and watched on, head in hands, as the ball landed behind the goal.
There was still time for one final Bilbaum chance but the effort was tame and straight at Gordon. With that the full time whistle blew and Team held on for their first win since January.
FC Team manager Ben Simon told JC Sport: "It was a great result and performance today, to a man the boys were all excellent and showed great desire and hunger to get the three points.
"It's pleasing that we stopped our negative spiral of results and can hopefully now push on for the rest of the season."
