In Wolff's Words

Reflections on a positive start

By David Wolff, October 21, 2016

We are now nearing the end of October and the leagues are beginning to take shape.

I have now seen all the new teams and am impressed by the quality that each has to offer. They all need time for their players to familiarise themselves with each other to cement their individual identities.

Important new law changes for the new season

By David Wolff, August 29, 2016

We are now almost at the start of the 2016-2017 season and I am sure everyone is anxious and raring to go.

I am pleased to say that numbers are steady and I welcome four new teams into the competition. We now have 33 in membership with 10 in the Premier Division, 11 in the First and 12 in the Second.

End of season 2015/16 review

By David Wolff, June 8, 2016

The season commenced with 32 teams but within the first few weeks London Rovers (Division One) dropped out. Just before the year end there was another casualty with the demise of Faithfold A, reducing the numbers to 30.

This prompted the Management Committee to call a special meeting to address the situation and find ways to promote the league and increase participation.

It is quite some time since I wrote an article so I am now bringing matters up to date.

Reflections on season 2013/14

By David Wolff, May 27, 2014

The season is now over and the time has come to review. The terrible weather in mid-season spoilt the continuity for us all and some teams found it difficult to get back into the rhythm when it all resumed.

NLR's success filters down from the top

By David Wolff, February 17, 2014

January has come and gone with very little football. Similarly, we are now three quarters of the way through February with the same scenario. In the main, the only matches played have been on the artificial 3G pitches and better draining natural grass pitches.

I must congratulate all those teams who have made sterling efforts to gets matches on.

My half-time report

By David Wolff, January 6, 2014

We are now at the half way point in the season and it's pleasing to note that there has been little disruption due to the weather. However, with the seasonal festivities now out of the way, its looks as though the current horrific weather condition could have a large effect over the next few weeks.

There never seems to be a problem when I attend!

By David Wolff, October 29, 2013

The season has now been in operation for two months so now seems like the perfect time to make a short report.

Let me firstly say how delighted we all are that the league is now being sponsored by Maccabi GB to whom we are affiliated. This helps to cement our long-standing relationship and it will create an even more special bond between the two of us.

Season 2013/14 - a new dawn

By David Wolff, August 5, 2013

We are now on the verge of a new season and preparations are well under way at the Maccabi (Southern) Football League.

The league is no longer being sponsored by the JEWISH CHRONICLE and I would like to place on record our thanks for their many years of support.

The good, the bad and the ugly

By David Wolff, January 2, 2013

We are now halfway through the season and things are starting to ‘hot-up’ with the potential winners and runners-up emerging, as well as some relegation candidates.
