The moment Eli Guttman revealed he had no intention of renewing his contract with the Israel Football Association, the pressure was off.

With two matches still left to play, he finds himself in a no-lose position. Fail to qualify for France and he will soon be forgotten. But reach the finals and they won't be able to offer him a new contract quickly enough.

It’s been a monumental 10 days, ground-breaking in fact. And how they pulled it off I just don’t know. With 2,500 athletes in one hotel, the after party turned into one of the biggest Jew-dos of all time.

I almost had the shirt pulled off my back at the closing ceremony of the European Maccabi Games in Berlin. They just didn’t want to go home.

It will be a poignant occasion for many people for many different reasons. Having covered previous EMGs in Stirling, Antwerp, Rome and Vienna, this one will be extra special for me too as I visit the hometown of my late father for the first time.
