Caro's column

Result was no flash in the pan

By Danny Caro, February 29, 2016

Sunday was about as good as it gets in terms of a tactical master plan coming to fruition. Five goals, a clean sheet and thumping national cup holders Hendon United in their own back yard was as convincing as it sounds.

The look on Ric Blank and Dan Kristall’s faces when they lined up for their post-match interview was one of disbelief — it was as though they’d won the lottery.

United they stand, but league still lacks long-term vision

It's hard to know what the answer is unless we know what the question is. Simple as that.

If we knew exactly why so many players and teams have dropped out it would be easier to stop. But we don’t.

There are indeed several factors, and as David Wolff correctly states, “no quick fixes”. Now is the time to act.

This was real Roy of the Rovers stuff

Sunday’s match between Hendon and Redbridge had absolutely everything; goals, 12 to be precise, red cards and a penalty shoot-out. Was it the best ever Sunday League match? Quite possibly.

Take it from me, Chigwell will win the Masters

It felt as though I was lining up against the firing squad on duty for Faithfold in the Maccabi Masters Football League on Sunday.

Shafron deserves 10/10 for chutzpah

Maccabi giants ready to stand up and be counted

The quarter-finals of Cyril Anekstein Cup take centre stage this weekend as MGBSFL players return following a two-week winter break.

There are two stand-out ties as North London Raiders A host Harmen while Hendon United Sports Club A plays Redbridge Jewish Care A. I can see home advantage holding the key, while the other two matches are easier to predict.

Gershfield is the jewel in the crown for Maccabi League

By Danny Caro, December 4, 2015

It’s been quite a memorable few weeks for James Gershfield – my MGBSFL Player of the Month for November.

His goals have helped propel Harmen into genuine title contenders and even though he wasn’t 100 per cent fit on Sunday, he still had too much quality for Hendon United.

Brave Fortune had 10 menshes of the match

A week is a long time in football.

It won't be the year of the underdog

By Danny Caro, November 12, 2015

You can't beat the buzz of a cup upset – in any standard of football. Be it the World Cup, FA Cup or even the Cyril Anekstein Cup, the little guy beating the big guy and defying the odds is what sport is all about.

Red-hot Reiss in a league of his own

By Danny Caro, November 9, 2015

October featured a number of eye-catching performances in the MGBSFL, but no-one was as consistent as Reiss Mogilner — my Player of the Month.

The Brady Maccabi hot-shot registered three consecutive hat-tricks in a real purple patch that accounted for Scrabble FC, North London Raiders B and SPEC FC.
