Glancy is the focus right now

All eyes will be on Whitefield Golf Course this weekend as the community’s top golfers go in search of glory at the Glancy.

Hartsbourne have monopolised the tournament in recent times, with four consecutive victories, and it will take something special to wrestle the trophy from their grasp.

The Bushey Heath club has produced some fine players over the years and its future looks healthy going by results at the recent John Reubens tournament for players aged under 21.

Indeed this all bodes well for next year’s Maccabiah Games in Israel where Team GB will be looking to build on the success of the 2011 European Maccabi Games in Vienna.

Talented teenager Marc Brenner will be looking to impress once more. The Essex County golfer has made giant
strides in the sport over the years and is just one of the names to look out for.

The format of the competition sees foursomes on Saturday followed by singles on Sunday.

* Faithfold assistant-manager Daryl Phillips is confident his team will be well-equipped to challenge for honours in Maccabi football next season.

The club’s record scorer is delighted with their success in the transfer window after securing the services of Paul Babai and Jonny Haik, as I mentioned last week.

Hendon stole the show last season but that’s history now.,” he said. “We start pre-season next week and already
the signs are looking good.

“We’re delighted that Paul and Jonny have returned from North West Neasden. They played away last year and this
just goes to show that the grass isn’t always greener.”

* Over the last few seasons, the MSFL has lost teams and added new ones. Season 2012/13 looks set to be no different and it’s great news to hear that the successful Norstar are adding a C team.

Ex-Oakhill Lions manager Zack Gothelf will lead the side, ably assisted by David Domb, the former boss of MJSL outfit Hyde Park Rovers.

Norstar chairman Phil Peters has known these two men for a combined 30 years and is confident they will finally put some silverware in the Norstar trophy cabinet.

Gothelf is known to have a huge contacts book and will be looking to recruit some major talents. Domb is similarly well-connected but will be taking a more hands-off approach as he looks to stake a claim for a playing position.

No doubt they will be the ones to watch in Division Four next season.
