Students to sing live on Glee talent show

Two Jewish singers from a Nottingham University musical society are to compete for a place in the final of Channel 5 talent show “Don’t Stop Believing”.

Along with 16 others from the campus-formed group “Musicality”, Max Grant, 21, a medical student from Finchley, and James Lewis, 22, an English graduate from Watford, will face the public vote after a live performance this Sunday.

Both are used to the limelight, having starred in a number of Musicality concerts and musical theatre productions.

Plastic gun robber stays in jail

A dangerous robber jailed for a minimum of six years after wielding a plastic gun at his victims during two separate attacks has failed to win a cut in his sentence on appeal.

Last August at St Albans Crown Court, Paul John Wakenshaw, 38, of Watford, admitted two counts of robbery and two of having an imitation firearm with intent to commit

He struck at Sophia Jewellers, on The Broadway in Stanmore, in December 2008, pressing a gun against a shop assistant's chest while demanding that she opened the safe.

Terror victims meet Harry Potter star

A group of Israeli victims of terror enjoyed dinner with Harry Potter star Emma Watson on Sunday.

The Israelis, visiting under the aegis of One Family, spotted Watson at The Grove in Watford. When one introduced himself to the actress, she left her friends to join their table, signing autographs and talking about her career.


New primary school planned in Herts

Exploratory talks are being held towards the establishment of a second state-aided Orthodox Jewish primary school in Hertfordshire.

The discussions involve community leaders, the United Synagogue and the local education authority and a disused school in Potters Bar is among early sites under consideration.
