A teenage scout is to be interviewed by police about antisemitic abuse shouted at Jewish ex-servicemen during a Remembrance Day service in Romford, Essex.

Shouts of “here come the Jews, let’s kill the Jews” punctuated a march-past by hundreds of ex-soldiers, including a contingent of the Association of Jewish Ex-servicemen and Women.

The shouts came from a group of Romford Explorer scouts in uniform who were accompanied by adults

Grandmother arrested for 'selling tortoises illegally'

A Jewish grandmother has been arrested for allegedly selling tortoises illegally from her pet guest house in Essex.

Tracy Cooper, 43, was shocked when she woke one morning last month to discover six police officers, three police jeeps and a warrant for her arrest.

She runs a pet boarding house in Epping which currently houses 23 tortoises, 14 parrots, 10 canaries, nine rabbits, eight cats and two ferrets.

But she has been accused of selling tortoises without the required government documentation.

Twin schools build relations

The head of a Northern Galil school has visited Manchester as part of UJIA’s School to School twinning project.

North Cheshire Jewish Primary School head Jackie Savage hosted the fact-finding mission from Gila Mickel from the Kerner School in Meona and Lenna Rosenberg, head of the Clore Tikva Primary in Redbridge.

They and other school representatives shared ideas on best practice and on how to take the partnerships forward.

North Cheshire and Clore Tikva are the only UK primaries involved in the twinning venture.

Redbridge: Fighting for its survival or ready for a renaissance?

Once the natural settling place for Jews moving from their original East End homes, Redbridge Jewry is engaged in a fight for survival.

Younger members are migrating in large numbers to the major north London and Hertfordshire centres for social, family or employment reasons. Others have moved further out into Essex to the more expensive properties of Chigwell, leaving once thriving synagogues in decline. Kosher shops have shut and Jewish schools are struggling to fill places.

BNP councillor suspended for false murder claims

BNP man Richard Barnbrook has been suspended as a councillor for misleading constituents over the murder figures in his borough.

He falsely claimed in a video posted on YouTube that three people were murdered in three weeks in Barking and Dagenham, and allowed the clip to remain online for four months despite being warned it was inaccurate.

Mr Barnbrook claimed he had been confused about the figures because of his dyslexia.
