Shulton joins Pinner

Team GB star Scott Shulton has joined the coaching team at Pinner JFC.

The Ebbsfleet United midfielder will be responsible for developing the club’s Under 16 and 18 squads.

As an energetic box-to-box midfielder, Shulton began his career at Watford before joining Wycombe Wanderers at the age of 12. He signed professional forms at Adams Park in 2008 and spent part of his learning curve on loan at Hendon during the 2007-08 season.


Teacher charged with sex assault

A teacher has appeared in court charged with sexually assaulting two children.

Michael Gordon, 55, a member of Pinner and Northwood Liberal Synagogue, faces 11 charges of sexually assaulting a boy under the age of 13 by touching, and three charges of sexually assaulting a boy aged 13.

He appeared at City of London Magistrates’ Court on August 25 and was bailed. He did not enter a plea.

It is alleged that the offences took place between September 1, 2007, and April 9 this year.

Mr Gordon, of Thrush Green, Harrow, will appear at Southwark Crown Court on September 22.


Four shuls, one voice

A combined Yom Hazikaron/Yom Ha’atzmaut event at Pinner Synagogue was the first in what is hoped will be joint ventures between the four United Synagogue communities on the outer north-west London fringes.

The commemoration attracted over 300 members from the host community, Northwood, Ruislip and Watford. The programme featured the visiting rabbis and contributions from young community members. A proportion of profits will be donated to Magen David Adom.


End of Plancey’s acting role at Northwood

Northwood Synagogue held a special kiddush on Shabbat to bid farewell to Rabbi Alan Plancey after 20 months as acting minister.

The shul was packed for the service, after which chairman Alan Taylor paid tribute to the rabbi and his wife Miriam for outstanding leadership, friendship and hospitality.

In appreciation of their efforts, he presented them with an inscribed silver tray.


A nation remembers and educates

Northwood’s four-day HMD programme — the largest of its type in the UK — launched on Monday with the first group from the anticipated 2,000 secondary school pupils and teachers from Harrow, Hillingdon and Hertsmere.

Organised jointly by the Northwood United and Liberal shuls, the scheme is in its eighth year. Many civic leaders were at the opening, where survivor Ziggy Shipper preached against hatred.


New at Northwood

Rabbi Dr Moshe Freedman is Northwood Synagogue’s new minister and will take up the post in time for Pesach.

The appointment of the 30-year-old, who recently received semichah in Israel, was overwhelmingly approved by the 130 Northwood congregants who came to the shul to hear him speak and answer questions.

Seniors - Away to Norstar (MSFL Division 4)

Lost 3-1.

The Seniors started well and were controlling the game keeping Norstar at bay in their own half. But with 20 minutes gone Norstar pushed forward with one of their few chances and whipped in a ball from right to be headed home.

The blues lost concentration and not least due to two early substitutions that manager Les Conway was forced to make. Josh Sasto due to a recurring shoulder injury and Marc Benamram with a calf problem.


The Pinner Israel Action Group hold Israeli wine-tasting fundraiser

The Pinner Israel Action Group moved closer to completing its second partnership with the Israel Guide Dog Centre for the Blind after an Israeli wine-tasting fundraiser. Forty wine buffs heard Neil Isaacson of Hendon kosher wine specialist Amazing Grapes give a short lecture on wine-making and an overview of the fast-growing Israeli market before enjoying a tasting. The Pinner Israel Action Group has already completed one $25,000 partnership with the Israel Guide Dog Centre to support the raising and training of a guide dog.


Father dies moments after seeing his daughter marry

A leading communal figure died suddenly at his daughter's wedding on Monday evening.

Michael Rosen, 65, from Pinner, Middlesex, was celebrating the marriage of his daughter Lynne to Robert Dyan at the Grove Hotel in Watford, Hertfordshire, when he collapsed from a suspected heart attack.
One guest said: "He seemed 100 per cent fine. Everything was normal and we were returning to our tables after the Israeli dancing when he collapsed. You could see it was serious because the rabbis started praying."


Like father, like son at Northwood shul

Son will replace father as the spiritual head of Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue tomorrow when Rabbi Aaron Goldstein is inducted as senior minister.

As the 38-year-old rabbi takes charge, his father, Rabbi Andrew Goldstein, will become emeritus minister. At the same service, Rabbi Hillel Athias-Robles will be inducted as assistant minister.
