Latin teacher innocent of sex abuse

A Latin teacher at an exclusive London prep school has been cleared of sexually abusing children.

Michael Gordon, 55, a member of Pinner and Northwood Liberal Synagogue, was found not guilty of 14 counts of sexual assault on a child under 13 and four of sexual assault between September 1 2006 and April 9 2009.

Southwark Crown Court heard last week that Mr Gordon, a teacher with 25 years’ experience, allegedly stroked the youngsters regularly and pressed himself up against them.


Latin teacher accused of assault on pupils

A Latin master at a top London public school subjected three pupils to a sustained campaign of sexual abuse, a court has heard.

Michael Gordon, 55, a member of Pinner and Northwood Liberal Synagogue, regularly stroked the youngsters and pressed himself up against them, it is claimed.

The boys, who were all aged between 10 and 13 at the time, said the abuse made them feel “shivery” and “horrible”, Southwark Crown Court heard.


Northwood remembers the Holocaust

A memorial to Shoah victims has been installed in the entrance to Northwood Synagogue. The memorial is a wall of Jerusalem stone with a plaque in Welsh slate bearing a quotation from the Book of Job in Hebrew and English. Designed by architect Robert Budwig, it was donated by the congregation’s immediate past chair David Freedman in memory of his wife Estelle.

Teenager snaps up photo prize

A severely disabled teenager has won an award for a self-portrait photograph taken after hours of practice with a sensitive remote switch linked to a digital camera.

Max Goulde, 18, has been awarded the east Midlands runner-up prize in the national I-Click Photographic Competition and will have his work displayed at the Oxo Gallery in the South Bank.

As a result of a serious illness at 18 months old, Max has cerebral palsy, quadriplegia, epilepsy and is blind. He is in a wheelchair and requires around the clock care.
