Joining Norwood's uneasy riders

Although not normally superstitious, the portents were not promising in the lead up to my participation in the Norwood bike ride in Croatia.

Persuaded to sign up by a good friend, my training consisted primarily of laps around Regent's Park on the bike I received from my parents as a batmitzvah present.

A busy start at Radlett

Radlett Synagogue's new ministerial couple hardly had time to draw breath on their arrival before being drawn into a hectic week of activities.

First up, Rabbi Leo Dee delivered a dvar Torah at the synagogue's annual meeting.

There was a large turnout for the Dees' first Shabbat with the community, including a traditional Friday night dinner with more than 100 members.

Education minister takes back lessons from London

Israel's Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar concluded a short trip to the UK on an optimistic note after visiting JCoSS in East Barnet and the Independent Jewish Day School in Hendon.

He said he was surprised to learn that as many as two thirds of UK Jewish children now attended a Jewish day school.

JFS pupils attacked on bus

Barnet police are stepping up patrols in the Hendon area after JFS pupils were assaulted by four boys who burst onto their school bus.

Police said the four attacked a JFS boy while the bus was stationary in traffic on Station Road, Hendon, after school last Wednesday. The teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, are said to have pressed the emergency access button to climb aboard the vehicle.

Jewish school pupils attacked on bus home

Police have promised additional patrols in Hendon after the assault of a group of Jewish pupils as they travelled home from school on Monday.

Several JFS pupils were left with minor injuries after four teenage boys climbed on to the school bus while it was stopped at traffic lights, then allegedly punched and struck passengers.

Neighbour is cleared over weedkiller vendetta

Robert Pearlman, 44, was accused of attacking the hedge between his and Saul Shaya's homes as part of a long-running dispute between the men, who are both Jewish.
