Fight to save Suburb library

Leaders of a campaign to save Hampstead Garden Suburb's library are calling for support from the Jewish community, which accounts for more than 40 per cent of borrowers.

Some 2,500 signatures have been collected for a petition opposing Barnet Council's plan to close the library in September.

Capital gain is Birmingham's ministerial loss

Birmingham Central Synagogue will be without a permanent minister for the High Holy-Days following the departure in August of Rabbi Shlomo Odze.

He is joining South Hampstead Synagogue as associate rabbi after serving the Pershore Road community for six years.

"He will be greatly missed and a very hard act to follow," said Central president Geoffrey Clements.

Scroll of honour for Alyth

North Western Reform Synagogue in Golders Green has taken possession of the first newly written Sefer Torah in its 78-year history.

The scroll was written in London and funded by members' contributions ranging from £1 to £400.
