A man has been fined after he stole an etrog from a specialist Succot store.

Ali Kerman-Shali was arrested after he put the fruit in his pocket and ran away from the shop in Golders Green, north west London.

The etrog was estimated to be worth around £80.

Woman posted dog poo in lodger row

A Golders Green woman has been convicted of harassment and assault on a police officer, after a sequence of events during which she sent dog excrement to a former lodger by post.

Yanina Heuberger, 53, was convicted of sending both an abusive email and a further offending letter to lawyer Lisa Hirsowitz following a small claims settlement over the lodger’s rental deposit.

Sainsbury's tie-up with Jewish Care

Sainsbury’s in Golders Green has chosen Jewish Care as its local charity of the year, a partnership launched with a joint “Live Jewish festival experience” at the store before the chagim.

Staff from Jewish Care and the supermarket handed out free samples of food associated with Rosh Hashanah.

Rimon Primary opens with unfilled places

A modern Orthodox Jewish free school opened in Golders Green this week with barely half its reception places filled.

Based at Golders Green Synagogue’s Dunstan Road site, the Rimon Jewish Primary can take 28 reception pupils but is starting with just 15.

Bakery windows smashed

Windows at the Carmelli bakery in Golders Green have been smashed twice this week.

The shop was closed on Shabbat morning when a brick was thrown through the front. A patrolling Police Community Support Officer saw the suspect — a male of about 18, dressed in black, and of unknown ethnic origin — but he ran off.
