Author rabbi's heartfelt donation

The literary efforts of Edgware Synagogue's Rabbi David Lister have helped the congregation to raise the funds for a defibrillator, allowing prompt treatment of cardiac arrests.

More than £500 was brought in from the the launch of Rabbi Lister's book, Intergalactic Judaism, at which he gave an audiovisual presentation on prayer and astrophysics, based on one of the book's chapters.

Noam Primary secretary Joanna Serfaty proved herself a real high-flyer on Sunday with a sponsored skydive in aid of the school's new home project.

Ms Serfaty jumped from 10,000ft at the Parachute Centre in March, Cambridgeshire. "It's the most terrifying thing I have done," she said.

Abramovich man funds school

A Russian oil billionaire who is a close confidant of Roman Abramovich has been revealed as the primary donor for the £4.2 million rebuilding project at Edgware Jewish Primary School.

EJPS is acknowledging Eugene Shvidler's generosity by changing its name next year to the Beit Shvidler Primary School.

Cullum sets tone for £3.7m dinner

Brit award winning pop and jazz singer Jamie Cullum sang the praises of Jewish Care at its campaign dinner on Monday, which raised a record £3.7 million.

Addressing almost 1,000 guests at Grosvenor House in central London, Cullum said he had been "absolutely blown away" by a visit to the Maurice and Vivienne Wohl campus in Golders Green, where he spoke to residents.

Rosh Pinah builds

A £3.5 million building programme at Edgware's Rosh Pinah Primary including a modern early years unit has been approved by Barnet Council and construction is expected to start in January.

The project is designed to have Rosh Pinah's operations on a single site in Glengall Road. Its 120 nursery and reception children are currently taught at the original school site in Mowbray Road.

Ilford primary reveals £10m move

Ilford Jewish Primary School has announced that its 370 pupils will move to the the nearby King Solomon High site in Barkingside as part of a £10 million project with its current premises being used for a Hindu school.

In August, Redbridge Council invited proposals for a new school on the IJPS site.
