Faith groups attack usury

A campaign against excessive interest rates was launched with interfaith backing at Britain’s oldest synagogue, Bevis Marks, in the heart of the City of London on Wednesday.

Christian and Muslim representatives joined Rabbi Natan Asmoucha at the synagogue before setting off for a rally at Spitalfields, organised by the charity London Citizens.

Rabbi Asmoucha explained that the protest was not against lending as such but against “high interest rates which keep people from ever getting out of debt”.

Rabbi blasts Tories over Euro allies

A British rabbi has stepped into the controversy over the Conservatives’ allies in the European Parliament’s new centre-right group.

Rabbi Barry Marcus of London’s Central Synagogue has called into question the appointment of Polish MEP Michal Kaminski as chair of the European Conservative and Reformist Group (ECR), which now includes 25 MEPs from Britain’s Conservatives.

University apologises to ZF for cancelled event...

University College London has apologised to the Zionist Federation for cancelling an Israeli Independence Day celebration at the Bloomsbury theatre because the poster featured members of the IDF in uniform.

The Bloomsbury Theatre, owned by UCL, cancelled one of the ZF's two Israel independence day events in April this year because publicity pictures included performers from the IDF entertainment troupe in uniform.

West London rabbi hits the jackpot in Vegas

A London Reform minister believes his upcoming move to Las Vegas is no gamble, rather the “opportunity of a lifetime”.
Rabbi Malcolm Cohen, 35, is leaving the West London Synagogue to take up a post next month with the Temple Sinai congregation in Summerlin, 25 minutes by car from the centre of the world’s gaming capital.

“I got the offer in April and decided it was a fantastic opportunity to be able to develop a community there,” he said.
