City of London pupil runs multi-faith conference

A 17-year-old City of London pupil organised and hosted a multi-faith conference for sixth-formers from London schools including JFS.

Times religion correspondent Ruth Gledhill and Adam Copson of the British Humanist Association were among a panel recruited by Hannah Cowen to debate the place of religion in the modern world.

Brandeth helps MDA to £1.2m tonic

Broadcaster and former MP Gyles Brandreth helped the UK support group of medical charity Magen David Adom to raise a healthy £1.2 million from a dinner at the Millennium Hotel in Mayfair.

Mr Brandreth praised MDA’s volunteering spirit as a model for the Big Society.

Miliband hails 'fantastic' Norwood at £3m dinner

Ed Miliband has told 1,100 Norwood supporters that charities should never be regarded as “a soft touch” for government cuts.

Addressing Norwood’s annual dinner on Monday at London’s Grosvenor House, which raised £3 million-plus, the Labour leader acknowledged that it had been “a very tough year” for charities heavily reliant on private donors.
