It was “an opportunity to build a rabbinic team of diverse personalities and talents that in combination will be twice as effective”.

Guardian's capital offence

By Simon Rocker, January 21, 2010

The Elstree-based Happy Puzzle Company was bemused after the Guardian took a crack at one of its board games, called Thought Exchange, for giving Israel’s capital as Jerusalem. That’s a matter of diplomatic dispute, the paper carped.

A Happy Puzzle spokesman said that “thousands and thousands” of the game had been sold but just one caller had raised the issue. As for Jerusalem’s capital status, he explained: “We went by the Times Atlas. If it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for us.”

Among the Hertsmere volunteers was Daren Nathan, father of a nine-year-old pupil. “The school had been closed since Wednesday and being in such a rural location, the impact of the snow was horrendous,” he said. “It wasn’t clearing at all.

Anger over a delay to Borehamwood eruv

By Robyn Rosen, December 17, 2009

Borehamwood residents have accused the eruv committee of “dragging its feet” after no poles have been erected, six weeks after planning permission was granted.

Last month, Hertsmere council approved plans to build an eruv covering the local United and Federation synagogues, and allowing observant Jews to carry or push things on Shabbat.

Abraham Wahnon, eruv consultant, said: “All permission has been received, the money is in place and everything is ready to go but it’s not moving on.
