Glory for Goodkind

Max Goodkind continued his rise up the martial arts ladder with victories at two recent judo events.

With the IAPS Judo Championships and Hertfordshire School's Judo Championships titles already in the bag, Goodkind impressed at the International Judo Championships at the O2 in Greenwich.

Goodkind took the title of "London International Champion" after winning gold in his weight category.


'Microgrants' make a big difference

Small is beautiful for Jeneration, which has spent £4,500-plus on grants assisting small innovative ventures.

It has disbursed between £50 and £400 "microgrants" to activities including "Cartoon Kippah" - a Jewish podcast run by David Yehudah Stern - a Talmud study group and youth movement Habonim's bike restoration project for refugees.


Write stuff at Yavneh

Yavneh College in Borehamwood is urging parents and other supporters to write to Hertsmere Borough Council backing its planning application for a two-form primary section to open next year.

Governors' chair Sue Nyman said that although much had been done to iron out potential problems, "it is still too early to know whether we will be successful in achieving this deadline".

Hartsbourne held off the challenge of 23 clubs from around Hertfordshire to win the Handicap Cup for the first time in 25 years.

A team consisting of Heidi Rosenfeld, Hayley Freedman, Lori Friedman and Valerie Lemer won the Ladies Inter-Club Foursomes at South Herts Golf Club.

The Handicap Cup is presented to the team with the best combined net scores and Hartsbourne won this with a combined

Aged 16, Amy Zwirn is the youngest of the 37 hopefuls for the Herts prize of a year's modelling contract.
