Waltham Abbey 1 London Lions 4
London Lions ended pre-season stylishly with a terrific team performance beating Ryman North side Waltham Abbey 4-1.
With attentions turning to the clubs first ever appearance in the FA Cup next week against Clapton it was important for the Rowley Lane outfit to finish their last pre-season friendly strongly.
Sam Sloma put the home side in front following some great work by Watham Abbey old boy Daran Bern.
The visitors then drew level following a mix up in the Lions defence allowing the Waltham Abbey forward to slot home unopposed.
Lions regrouped and continued asserted themselves once more. The supporters watching would have been forgiven for thinking it was the home side playing at the higher level given the superb football being played at times.
Lions domination was rewarded and how, as they took a 2-1 lead. Dean Nyman lashed the ball straight into the top corner from all of 25 yards, giving the visiting keeper no chance.
As the half drew to a close Lions extended their lead to 3-1, as this time it was Sloma setting up Bern who made a great run into the Abbey box and slotted home scoring against his old side.
The second half saw Lions continue to dominate and continue to play some lovely attacking football. Lions then added a forth from the penalty spot after the referee awarded the spot kick for a late tackle in the box. Sloma coolly stepped up and tucked the penalty away.
It was a fitting end to what has so far been a really promising pre-season. Lions should go into next week’s FA Cup game full of confidence.
