Zoe Dunn will be the founding headteacher of Rimon Jewish Primary, the free school opening in Golders Green in September.
Currently head of the junior section at the Royal School in Hampstead, Cambridge-educated Dr Dunn began her teaching career in the state sector in Kent. She has since taught for 10 years in preparatory and independent schools in north-west London.
Dr Dunn has recently been awarded a Churchill Fellowship, enabling her to travel to schools in Sweden and America to investigate the development of social and emotional intelligence in education.
She will join other members of the Rimon team at a parents' evening next Wednesday.
"Thrilled" at her appointment, she looked forward to "building and shaping the future of this exciting new school".
Rimon's religious principal Rabbi Harvey Belovski praised Dr Dunn as "an outstanding headteacher. She is highly experienced and deeply sensitive to the Jewish aspirations of the school".
