All-Party Parliamentary Group Against Antisemitism members Mike Gapes and Mike Freer addressed a Shabbat forum at Finchley Synagogue about their efforts to combat antisemitism.
In a discussion before more than 200 congregants moderated by shul chair Jon Mendelsohn, Mr Gapes discussed his early efforts in Parliament to counteract Holocaust denial and his continued campaign against hate on the internet.
The Ilford South Labour MP also spoke of working with local schools to shut down an antisemitic Facebook page that had targeted members of the local Jewish community.
Mr Freer, the Tory MP for Finchley and Golders Green, voiced concern that the Middle East conflict was too often used as a shield for antisemitic comment. He also offered practical advice to congregants seeking to explore interfaith opportunities in the locality.
