Glasgow City Council has boosted the Sandymount cemetery regeneration project with a £4,000 donation towards the £15,000 required to create a Jewish children's memorial.
Between 1905-38, 760 children were buried at Sandymount in unmarked graves, a grim indication of the then high infant mortality rate locally.
Fundraising is also under way for refurbishing the stepped entrance from Hallhill Road and the trustees of the Glasgow Dean of Guild Court Trust have pledged £2,200 to the overall project.
"We are very grateful for the support that we're getting as we're entering the final phases of the project," said Stanley Coorsh, chair of the regeneration project trustees. "There have been generous donations from the Glasgow Jewish community and we have had ex-Glaswegians get in touch from Israel and Canada."
