Central Synagogue president Leonard Jacobs, who held the post for 25 years, has stood down. After his resignation speech at the shul's annual meeting, Mr Jacobs was given a standing ovation. In his report, chairman Geoffrey Clements, who takes over as president, told the 50-strong gathering that plans to redevelop the Pershore Road site were now on hold due to the credit crunch. Enid Korn was elected as the executive's first woman member.
