At the finale of both of her concerts in Tel Aviv’s Hayarkon Park this week Madonna draped herself in the Israeli flag leading hundreds of Palestinian supporters to voice their anger on YouTube.
Several of the posts included antisemitic comments and profane language directed at Israel or Madonna.
One commentator wrote: “I don't understand why people are surprised at Madonna the Devil worshipper holding the Israeli flag. Israel is nothing more than the synagogue of Satan."
The Sticky & Sweet tour is the top-grossing tour by a solo artist, taking $408m (£249.4m) as she played to 3.5 million fans at 85 shows.
Madonna arrived in Israel on Sunday and spent the evening visiting the Western Wall. On Monday she had dinner with opposition leader Tzipi Livni and she is expected to meet Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Friday.
Although she has not performed in Israel since 1993 she visited the country in 2004 and 2007. She has been practicing Kabbalah for more than 10 years and has adopted the Hebrew name Esther.
