JERUSALEM 1 MS BAMBI 5
MS Bambi boss Yoni Sarig was close to tears after his team completed the first part of a possible double with a 5-1 demolition of Jerusalem.
Needing just a point to clinch the league title, the Olim newcomers went for the jugular from kick-off, playing a high intensity, possession game. Jerusalem were forced into a long-ball, counter attack strategy but were stopped in their tracks every time by the Bambi defence.
It was Bambi who opened the scoring following a great team move that culminated in Hugo feeding star forward Aviv Zemer who fired home.
Bambi doubled their advantage 15 minutes later with another goal by Zemer, who converted a penalty after Hugo was brought down in the box.
Bambi continued to control the game in the second half and attack the Jerusalem goal, but a poor defending gave Jerusalem a lifeline to make it 2-1.
The goal was a wake up call for Bambi who continued to run at the Jerusalem back four with a flurry of attacks, and they got their reward when they were awarded a penalty for a handball inside the box which also resulted in a red card for the Jerusalem player. Zemer made no mistake as he scored his second penalty of the night and clinched another hatrick to restore their two-goal cushion.
The clock was running down and Bambi could sense the championship was almost theirs as Hugo scored an incredible volley to bring the score to 4-1. After this goal Jerusalem gave up hope and Bambi scored another goal with very little resistance, through their defender Ido Sagacio.
Bambi manager Yoni Sarig commented: "There are no words to describe how happy I am that we are the champions.
"This is our first season in the league and winning the league has been our target since the beginning.
"I am very proud of my players who gave everything for the team."
Sarig warned his players that any title celebrations must remain on hold for now. "We must not get too carried away with our title victory as we still have to prepare for our semi-final cup game this Saturday night," he said.
"We will do everything we need to get into the cup final on March 22 and we are hoping to also add the cup to our silverware collection.
"We have dedicated this title to our friend Ben Rom whom our team is named after. Rest In Peace brother."
