The telephone lines were buzzing at Balfour House in Finchley for UJIA’s Super Sunday, where over 150 volunteers solicited support for the charity’s 2009 campaign, focusing on welfare and educational activities in northern Israel.
More than £54,000 was raised, including contributions towards UJIA’s domestic educational activities, such as work with youth movements and day schools and the training of teachers.
A number of youth movement members were among those manning the phones.
Volunteer Stephen Kaye reflected that “Super Sunday is a great way to do your bit for charity. While the sentiment of the day is serious, the atmosphere in the room was fun and relaxed with everyone working towards the same goal.”
Further telethons will be held in Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Glasgow over the coming weekend.
