MGBSFL DIVISION THREE
FAITHFOLD C 2 KING CROWN 4
King Crown boss Jacob Kadoch expressed great "pride" after his team claimed their first-ever victory in the Maccabi League, beating an experienced Faithfold C team 4-2.
Thumped 9-1 by L'Equipe last weekend, Kadoch had the luxury of full-strength squad for the trip to Chase Lodge, and what a difference that made. They flew out of the traps and forged ahead after 15 minutes when Marc Posner delivered a great cross, Daniel Cohen dummied it for Daniel Elghanian at the back post to hit it low and hard past the keeper.
King Crown doubled their lead midway through first half when Cohen won a free-kick edge of the box. Benji Greenblatt curled home a delicious effort into the top left corner, with Faithfold's stand-in keeper David Garson rooted on the spot.
Greenblatt scored his second and King Crown's third around the half hour mark when Posner's corner was cleared to the edge of the box and the striker, with no back-lift, smashed his shot into the top right-hand corner.
Faithfold gave themselves a lifeline on the stroke of half-time, capitalising on a poor clearance but it was advantage King Crown.
The home side spurned a golden chance to make it 3-2 five minutes into the second half when they were awarded a penalty for handball, but Ben Simons was denied by Nick Green who dived smartly to his left to keep the ball out. King Crown felt that justice had been done.
The visitors then made it 4-1 Elghanian won a free-kick 30 yards out following some clever hold up-play. Greenblatt, who was on fine form all day, smashed his shot against the underside of the crossbar and Cohen was on hand to head home the rebound.
Faithfold scored a second with the last kick of the game, but as the final whistle blew King Crown were left to reflect on a job well done.
Nick Roman and Dan Gordon netted for the second consecutive week for Faithfold.
Manager Jacob Kadoch came on with 20 minutes to go to sure things up in the midfield with fresh legs. I was hugely impressed with the team spirit and the determination of the team, great bouncebackability from last week. King Crown has officially arrived.
"It was a great performance from they boys and it could of been more on another day."
