Radlett Synagogue members have approved a wide-ranging “strategy and vision” document defining the community’s goals over the next five years.
After the last in a series of consultations with congregants, board member Andrew Katz claimed “a loud and clear endorsement” of the shul’s plans.
Mr Katz and board colleagues Michael Seres and Howard Cohen were aiming to “grow the buzz in Radlett through a mixture of religious, educational and social activities for all ages across the community”.
With a clear nod to Mr Katz’s management consultancy background, the document is presented as a business plan. It is divided into seven sections, including children and youth; adults and families; functions and fundraising and services and religion. Within each is a wish list.
Some of the targets are already in place — for example, an active mother and babies group and the appointment of two youth directors. Priority initiatives have a six-month deadline.
Mr Katz reported that key elements such as social events for older members of the community were beginning to come together. In addition, a number of members had volunteered for greater involvement in welfare activities.
“The ultimate aim is to turn the synagogue into a true community centre,” he added. However, a five-year target for a purpose-built community centre is contingent on approval for plans to redevelop its Watling Street site.
