In the States even quite traditional shuls often use cinema style heavily upholstered seats. It takes getting used to the wooden benches in some UK shuls!

Is there any reason why all shul seats are the same size? It should be possible to set aside an area with low seats for the vertically challenged, and another area with higher seats and more leg room for those who are over 1.83m (or 6 ft for the non-metric)
