Terror alert over backgammon set on plane

Israeli travellers sparked a security alert on an aeroplane this week – over a board game.

The US Airways flight between New York and Phoenix was diverted to St Louis on Tuesday. According to news site KSDK the three men were of Russian descent and spoke poor English.

PLO envoy: Palestinian state should be Jew-free

A Palestinian official has called for a Palestinian state without any Jewish residents.

Maen Areikat, who served as the Palestinian Liberation Organisation's envoy to the United States, said "it would be in the best interest of the two people to be separated" in any future state.

In recent months developers have created iPhone apps for hunting Nazis, finding chametz before Passover and encouraging Palestinians to rise up in a third intifada.

Now, technology which asks users to guess whether people are "Jew or Not Jew" has provoked the ire of anti-racism campaigners.

The vote for the congressional seat of New York's ninth district, which includes parts of Brooklyn and Queens, was called after the resignation of Jewish representative Anthony Weiner amidst a sex scandal.

A teacher whose sister battled leukemia has developed a website for Jews around the world to unite in prayers for a speedy recovery.

Shira Kalish, from Long Island, came up with the idea of "linking the Jewish community through chesed (lovingkindness)" when she witnessed the response to her sister's illness.

ESPN takes on antisemitic fantasy football teams

The US sports network ESPN has clamped down on fantasy football teams with antisemitic names.

The decision to remove from its website teams with names including "Jews are Immoral" and "Jews Are Terrible" came after the human rights organisation the Simon Wiesenthal Centre highlighted the issue, after a Jewish parent noticed the content while signing up his son.

Cameron condemns Egypt Israeli embassy attack

David Cameron has condemned the storming of the Israeli embassy in Cairo on Friday.

A violent mob attacked the Cairo site on Friday evening, necessitating Israel and Egyptian commandos to conduct an emergency airlift to bring the Israeli ambassador and his family to safety.
