Binyamin Netanyahu has launched a savage attack on Iran’s president, including holding up Nazi Holocaust plans to counteract Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s Holocaust denial.

The emotional speech by Mr Netanyahu at the UN included condemnation of those countries who had stayed in the chamber for the duration of Mr Ahmadinejad’s speech.

He said: "The man who called the Holocaust a lie spoke at this podium. To those who refused to come and to those who left in protest, I commend you. You stood up for moral clarity and you brought honour to your countries.

"But to those who gave this Holocaust denier a hearing, I say on behalf of my people, the Jewish people, and decent people everywhere - have you no shame? Have you no decency?

"What a disgrace. What a mockery of the UN charter."

Delegates from the US, France and Britain walked out during Mr Ahmadinejad's speech, and Canada who boycotted the speech.

Mr Netanyahu held up a copy of the Wannsee agreement and the building plans of Auschwitz, signed by SS head Heinrich Himmler.

He asked: “Is this protocol a lie? Are these plans a lie too?”

He urged the UN to adopt tougher sanctions against Iran, describing the leadership as “primitive”.

But he made no detailed mention of his own country’s plans for peace, nor any concrete actions Israel planned to take against Iran.

He said: "We want peace and I believe that with goodwill and with hard work such a peace can be achieved.

"But it requires from all of us to roll back the forces of terror led by Iran that seek to destroy peace, that seek to eliminate Israel and to overthrow the world order.”
