Ballet school vice-principal charged with racially abusing Jewish student

The vice-principal of a leading Scottish ballet school based in the Highlands has appeared in court charged with racially abusing a Jewish student.

Jonathan Barton, of the Ballet West centre of excellence in Taynuilt, Argyll, is said to have told pupils practising a routine: “You look like the Jews lining up waiting to be shot.”

Lord Sugar to receive a T3 'Outstanding Contribution Award'

Birmingham Hippodrome: no to Israel boycotters

The chief executive of one of the largest touring venues in Britain has rejected calls by anti-Israel activists to cancel a show by Israeli dancers.

Israel's Batsheva Dance Company is set to take to the stage at the Birmingham Hippodrome next month, following its successful shows at the Edinburgh International Festival.

The great Golders Green etrog theft

A man has been fined after he stole an etrog from a specialist Succot store.

Ali Kerman-Shali was arrested after he put the fruit in his pocket and ran away from the shop in Golders Green, north west London.

The etrog was estimated to be worth around £80.

Teenager on trial over cardiff death

A teenager charged with the murder of a synagogue caretaker is currently on trial at Cardiff Crown Court.

Bleddyn Rees King, 18, from Abercynon, allegedly murdered David Evans, 64, during a fire at his home in January.

Mr Evans worked at the Cardiff United Synagogue for three years but there is no apparent connection between Mr Evans’s employment at the shul and his death.

Mayor: Tower Hamlets mural ‘to be removed’

A mural depicting money-grabbing bankers and highlighting Western imperialism conspiracy theories will be removed following complaints that it contains antisemitic undertones.

Freedom for Humanity was painted on a property near Brick Lane in London’s East End by renowned international graffiti artist Kalen Ockerman, known as Mear One.

Ed Balls’s "not embarrassed" by Nazi pic

Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls says he is “not embarrassed” by the student-era pictures of him in a Nazi uniform that appeared in the press in 2008.

In an interview with the Huffington Post he said: “Of course I’m not embarrassed by it. If I had the choice again, would I do it? No.”
