US-based Medium website received a complaint from the Board of Deputies, which described the claim as 'a complete lie'

An article by a Jewish anti-Israel blogger was removed from the Medium website after he alleged that a demonstration against antisemitism in Manchester was orchestrated by far-right figures.

The US-based site took down the article, written by Tony Greenstein, after the Board of Deputies lodged a complaint. Mr Greenstein, co-chair of Labour against the Witch-hunt, has been expelled from the Labour Party.

The article, headlined “NW [North West] Friends of Israel, Tommy Robinson and the EDL are Holding a Demonstration against Antisemitism in Manchester”, was deemed to have broken Medium’s content guidelines.

A Board of Deputies representative described the claim made by Mr Greenstein as a "complete lie with no factual basis”, adding that “there was absolutely no involvement of the EDL and Tommy Robinson. Indeed the organisations involved have denounced Tommy Robinson multiple times."

He said: "The demonstration against antisemitism in Manchester was led by speakers including the Chief Rabbi, Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl, and Members of Parliament including Labour MPs Ivan Lewis, Lucy Powell, James Frith and Kate Green, and Conservative MPs Chris Green and Mary Robinson. Home Secretary Sajid Javid also sent a message of support."

Mr Greenstein has been approached for comment.
