Organisers hail Batsheva tour 'triumph'

The organisers of a UK tour by Israeli dancers have hailed it as a huge success despite protests and disruptions.

Over 10,000 people attended performances by the Batsheva troupe in various cities, with 2,500 joining question-and-answer sessions and workshops.

From the first night in Edinburgh to the final standing ovation in Plymouth last Saturday, the 18 young dancers endured catcalls about “Palestinian blood” and “Israeli apartheid”.

But audiences and critics alike were enthusiastic. A Dance Consortium spokesman said the organisation was “thrilled”.
