Entrepreneurs from the UK were inviited to participate in a Dragons’ Den-style challenge by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs this week.

The UK final of Bizcamp Tel Aviv, held at the Google campus in Shoreditch, saw four young entrepreneurs pitch website ideas to a panel of four judges, including Israel’s ambassador to Britain, Daniel Taub, and Debu Purkayastha, principal of new business development for Google.

The panel cross-examined the entrepreneurs, before announcing that Juan Cartagena, 30, had won the challenge, based on his TraitPerception plan to measure an individual’s personality traits through social media.

Mr Cartagena, 30, will fly to Tel Aviv in October with nine other winners from Europe, to meet Israel’s most successful start-ups and investors.

He said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to win the place at Bizcamp. It’s going to be great to meet all the inspirational people in Israel. I hope it will open doors for my business to develop.”

Mr Taub said: “Juan showed the same type of passion and commitment for his business that is often evident in Tel Aviv’s most successful start-ups. I hope his great idea, great Bizcamp training, and the energy of Tel Aviv will help him achieve great things.”
