Opera recital series to launch on Sky Arts
Philanthropist and lawyer Ian Rosenblatt
Opera star Anna Caterina Antonacci and Juan Diego Florez are among those whose careers have been helped by the leading arts philanthropist and lawyer, Ian Rosenblatt.
Now Mr Rosenblatt has secured a major TV deal with Sky Arts to broadcast an international opera recital series.
He funds and organises the Rosenblatt Recitals, which move to Wigmore Hall next month for their latest season. Sky Arts will show the first four recitals. It will film the first performance – by Ohio-born tenor Laurence Brownlee – on September 24.
Mr Rosenblatt grew up in a musical family in Liverpool and set up the recital series to offer emerging talent a start in the opera world.
He said: “This is a very significant development for us, and very pleasing. We started in 2000 and have been putting on a concert every month since then — I think it’s been 140 altogether.
“To be invited to move to Wigmore Hall is very prestigious — and then to get the attention of a broadcaster of Sky’s reputation — is something we are very proud of.”
Fabio Armilato, who appears in a Rosenblatt Recital in January, is due to star in the new Woody Allen film.
