The British sitcom about a Jewish family's Friday night meal is to be remade for a US audience.

Friday Night Dinner, which aired earlier this year on Channel 4, followed the ups and downs of Shabbat with the eccentric Goodman family.

Created by Robert Popper and based on his experiences growing up in Edgware, the series starred Tamsin Greig and Simon Bird and received mixed reviews.

The JC described it as "a must for anyone who has spent Friday night dinners with an annoying sibling and an embarrassing dad" although admitted that its specifically Jewish content was limited.

The series is to be adapted by Greg Daniels, who also brought The Office across the Atlantic.

Friday Night Dinner, which is already shown on BBC America, has been commissioned for a second series in this country. A date has not been set for when the US version will be broadcast.
