Emma Conn and The Wanted

One of the hottest boy bands of the moment, The Wanted, have just finished a stadium tour including the Hammersmith Apollo and the Cardiff Arena. But their latest gig was a more intimate affair.

The five band members gave a private concert for 16-year-old Emma Conn and 20 of her school friends in the living room of the Conn family'sTotteridge home.

Emma, a pupil at North London Collegiate School, said: "We were all singing along like crazy - but there wasn't much room to dance or jump about."

She was the lucky winner of the "Gig in your Gaff" competition, organised by music video-sharing website muzu.tv, which 13,000 people entered.

Emma, a member of Edgware and District Reform Synagogue, said she had had to keep The Wanted's gig a secret from her friends. "It was hard keeping it quiet, but otherwise thousands of people could have turned up. We were waiting for them last Friday afternoon, and we were so excited and nervous, every time we heard a car door slam we jumped up. I didn't believe that it was actually going to happen until I saw them in the house. The band were such nice guys, and they chatted to my family in the kitchen for ages afterwards, my grandma was flirting with them."

For a major fan like Emma, the competition was easy, she said. "All I had to do was say how many members there were in the band. I entered in November and didn't hear for ages, I thought it had gone to someone else."

The Wanted, which had a number one hit with "All Time Low", played an acoustic set of six songs.

A video of the band's performance was broadcast on muzu.tv yesterday evening for fans to watch.

Now, after the highs of her own private performance, Emma has to go back to studying for her GCSEs. "It's been very depressing, I've been sad ever since the show finished," she said.
