The Jewish fashion designer behind Princess Diana’s wedding dress has been tipped to create one for Kate Middleton.

Paddy Power has odds of 5 to 1 that Elizabeth Emanuel will make the gown in which the future queen will walk down the aisle.

Ms Emanuel, who designed Diana's dress with her her husband David Emanuel, set up the couture wedding and evening-wear salon Art of Being in 2005.

Not only did she create the princess’s outfit for the 1981 royal wedding, she also designed the black taffeta dress in which the then Lady Diana Spencer made her flashbulb debut.

She has also designed evening wear for a range of glamorous celebrities, including Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Collins, Jerry Hall and Ivana Trump.

The bookmakers are offering better odds only for the bride’s favourite designer Daniella Issa Helayel, and British establishment staple Amanda Wakeley.

Bridal designer Suzanne Neville, who won an award for Best British Bridal Designer last year, said that Ms Middleton should ignore the speculation.

“The most important thing will be to hear what she wants - the dress needs to reflect Kate's personal style and personality."

She added: “It is incredibly important to make the gown fresh and modern but, moreover, something timeless.

“The images will be referred to for a long time to come."
