Labour leader Ed Miliband will travel to Israel next week for a three-day visit.

The Opposition leader is due to arrive in Tel Aviv on Thursday, and will hold meetings in Jerusalem with senior Israeli political figures.

Mr Miliband, whose parents fled Nazi oppression during the Holocaust, is also expected to visit the Yad Vashem Shoah museum.

His intention to go to Israel was first announced in February, but details were revealed only this week.

The trip will be one of the first major foreign visits of his time as party leader, and comes a month after Prime Minister David Cameron addressed the Knesset.

Speaking at the Community Security Trust annual dinner last month, Mr Miliband said he now felt “more part of the Jewish community than at any other time in my life”.

He also recalled how Israel had provided sanctuary to his grandmother.

It is thought that he will make private visits to family members who live in the country during his tour.

Mr Miliband is also expected to travel to meet senior Palestinian politicians.
