CST security operation leads to peaceful new year

A small number of antisemitic incidents were reported over Rosh Hashanah, according to community security officials.

Large-scale operations were in place to protect Jewish communities around the country, with the Community Security Trust working closely with police.

CST said the period had been “relatively quiet”, with no more than 10 incidents of verbal abuse reported. It is now investigating a number of cases in Manchester and compiling reports on the antisemitic insults which were shouted at Jewish people walking to and from synagogues in the city.

Mark Gardner, CST communications director, said: “Initial reports from throughout the country suggest that things were relatively quiet, with less than 10 cases of insulting antisemitic behaviour being reported to CST.”

Similar security measures will be in place this weekend for Yom Kippur.
