Board bid to get women talking at communal events

Jewish leaders have backed an attempt to reduce the number of male-only panels of speakers at communal events.

The issue was brought to light by Women in Jewish Leadership — a campaign group backed by the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council.

Women of the Wall blocked from holy site by chanting protesters

The Women of the Wall conducted a Rosh Chodesh service at the back of the Western Wall plaza on Wednesday morning, despite the presence of protesters and a police barricade.

The 300 women were not able to pray directly in front of the wall due to a large crowd of strictly Orthodox protesters who were screaming and chanting while standing between the feminist group and the holy site.

Women of the Wall prevented from praying at holy site

Some 250 members of the Women of the Wall group were prevented from praying at the Western Wall on Monday morning.

According to reports, between 5000 and 7000 young strictly Orthodox women arrived early at the women’s section of the Wall in order to obstruct the Women from approaching the holy site.

Charles Saatchi and Nigella Lawson to divorce

Charles Saatchi has announced that he and Nigella Lawson are to divorce.

The art collector said the decision to end his 10-year marriage to the 53-year-old TV cook was "heartbreaking".

He revealed that the couple were splitting after Ms Lawson failed to defend him during the media storm which followed the publication of photographs showing Mr Saatchi gripping Ms Lawson's neck.
